February aquatics director update

Have you ever wondered why people actually buy fish tanks in Australia? The information in this video should be the basis of all your promotional messaging. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vomSI9A0SPE&t=2s

Make sure you know the relevant laws before importing products from overseas! A good relationship based on respect and mutual benefit is the safest way to buy Australian certified products! This video will help you with what to consider! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY-ieoFdvVQ&t=1s

Cross breeding fish is when you allow 2 different species of fish to reproduce. Line breeding is where you selectively breed individuals within a species to encourage desirable traits. Overseas this has seen many interesting varieties be created, but in Australia we must be very careful not to allow fish to cross breed as it dilutes the purity of the limited number of species that we have available to us. Due to very strict quarantine laws we are only allowed to import fish on the allowable import list, so all other species need to be treasured and preserved. If everyone cross breeds fish that we can't get new bloodline for that species we will end up being lost to the Australian hobby. If this continued for long enough all the similar families of fish would mix meaning that only cross breeds would be available. This video will teach you more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1c9hr-0JJY&t=1s

I would like to thank David Wilson from Aquagreen on behalf of the whole Australian Aquatics Industry for his continued hard work and investigation behind the scenes into interstate border and international fish import laws. He is a very respected and valuable member of the PIAA Aquatic working group!

The quality of your fish is everything to your business! Support is now available!

The PIAA and The Aquarium Vet now have a program allowing Veterinary medications to be available to PIAA members!
