RSPCA NSW welcomes today’s announcement of the push for tougher penalties for animal cruelty offences in New South Wales.
NSW Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall said he will introduce into State Parliament notice for legislation in what would be the harshest penalties for animal cruelty in Australia.

NSW SES takes out top honors at Resilient Australia Awards
NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) has been recognised at the 2020 Resilient Australia Awards for its Ohana Project.
At a special online awards ceremony hosted at State Parliament House, (Tuesday 20 October), Minister for Police and Emergency Services the Hon. David Elliott MP, and Resilience NSW Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons announced the Ohana Project as the winner of the Government category.

Jetpets Companion Animal Rescue Award winners 2020
Following the announcement of the Finalists in September, one winner from each category was selected by an expert panel of 20 Judges. The winners were revealed on 15 October 2020 at a virtual Rescue Awards Ceremony run by Gold Rescue Partner, Refuel Creative in Adelaide. The Ceremony was broadcasted live at 4 pm AEDT across the country via the Rescue Awards Facebook page.

Today, PIAA is releasing an Advocacy Paper arguing for a wide reopening of pet industry businesses across the Stage 4 lockdown area from the end of next week, including mobile pet grooming.
“Greater Melbourne’s roadmap out of lockdown mustn’t neglect the welfare of our domestic animals,” said Barry Codling, president of the Pet Services Association of Australia (PIAA).
“We have a duty of care to the animals we bring into our households and families, to keep them fed, sheltered, safe and healthy.
